Extract from Trijntje Oosterhuis' wiki: The onset of her breakthrough for the wider audience within Holland was her rendition of the opening anthem composed by John Ewbank called "De zee" (The Sea) in front of 60,000 invited guests and for millions of TV viewers, during the official opening ceremony of the brand new soccer stadium in Amsterdam on August 14, 1996; soccer being the most popular sport in Holland, hence its widely promoted opening gala on national TV. It was only a small job for her for a couple of 100 guilders at the time; she was wearing a bright shiny red dress, and white scarf – the colours of the AJAX soccer team. She did it without any nervousness, but because of sound problems where she was standing at the center of the arena field, it almost went totally wrong. But good blessing was on her side and she was shining… this was the first time the Dutch were exposed to Trijntje singing this anthem, and they responded with awe: Who is this singer, who can sing so beautifully?
