The Way It Was is a track by the Killers written by all of the members of the band and Daniel Lanois. It is the third track off their 2012 album Battle Born and was produced by Brenden O'Brien. Despite it not being a single, the track was included on their 2013 greatest hits album Direct Hits. The song has been featured in the Killers' live show since its release and is a fan favorite. On The Way It Was, lead singer Brandon Flowers said in a track by track breakdown of Direct Hits that "With 20/20 hindsight, this song probably should’ve been a single. That’ll probably be what’s written on its headstone! When we play it live and Dave’s riff starts, it’s magic. We all love that song, so that’s why it’s on here.” Read more on Last.fm.
