Album Merry Christmas
Info about song
"All I Want for Christmas is You" is a song by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released as the lead single from her fourth studio album, Merry Christmas on November 1, 1994. The song was written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff, who also served as co-arranger and producer, and is an uptempo love song that incorporates bell chimes, synthesizers, and Ronettes-esque backing vocals. Its lyrics describe a woman's declaration that she does not care about Christmas presents or lights; all she desires for Christmas is to spend time with her lover. While the song topped the charts around the world on its initial release and has become an acclaimed holiday standard, the song was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 due to a rule stating only songs that were released as commercial singles could chart ("All I Want for Christmas is You" was only ever released as a promo single in America). After this rule lapsed in 1998, the song began topping Billboard's recurrent charts, eventually finally making its way to the Hot 100 in 2012 when Billboard allowed recurrent singles to appear on it. In 2019, the song peaked at #1, 25 years after its initial release. According to the All I Want For Christmas Is You Songfacts, in December 2006 this became the first ever ringtone to achieve an RIAA gold certification for sales of over 500,000. Read more on Last.fm.
