Info about song

"Guitar Man" was a song penned by Jerry Reed and his first charted hit. The tune was recorded by Elvis at least twice. This version is the result of a 1967 session at RCA Nashville. The legend is that nobody could play the guitar part, and Elvis demanded that his entourage scour the country and bring Jerry Reed in to play guitar. They found Reed fishing in Alabama, and he agreed to come into the studio and render his guitar part. On the early takes, you can hear Elvis messing up the lyrics once, but Reed never misses a note. The RCA session became the single release in 1967 and appeared on the "Clambake" album, but in 1968, Elvis chose to sing "Guitar Man" on his NBC Comeback Special. For that purpose, he went back into the studio, this time to Western Recorders in Burbank, to record the track that served as the basis for the TV performance and the album released after the special.
