This album makes use of a nicely accessible mix of woodwinds (recorder, shawm), plucked strings (cittern or lute) and percussion to present songs, some of which date back as far as the 12th century and includes cantigas which would have been familiar fare for pilgrims on the road to Santiago de Compostela. The saltarello, an Italian jumping dance.
