He is known for releasing covers of songs which aren't that well known in The Netherlands. He released his debut single, 'Baby Get Higher', in 2006. It became an airplay hit in the Netherlands. It peaked at #17 in the Dutch Top 40. In January 2007, his second single, 'Burn', was released. It did better than 'Baby Get Higher' in the charts, peaking at #7 in the Dutch Top 40 and #6 in the Dutch mega top 50. In March, 2007 his debut album 'Unwind' went straight to #1 in the Dutch Album Top 100 in its first week of release. His new single, the third from 'Unwind', is 'Deep', released on 25 June 2007.
In february 2009 VanVelzen announched two new albums set for release later that year, the first album "Take me in" will be released in may, the second album "Hear me out" will hit the stores in the first week of September.
