Tõnis Mägi is a Estonian singer and songwriter who has been probably the most influential and remarkable name in the Estonian rock music for the past 40 years. His career began already in the mid-sixties in school bands. To wider audience Tõnis Mägi was introduced by popular TV programs. He was never satisfied with the mainstream pop music of the time. His originality quickly made him one of the most popular and widely touring singers not only in Estonia, but in the whole Soviet Union. He has also performed in Finland, Sweden, Germany, France, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary and India. In the years of the Estonian "Singing Revolution" he was one of the most prominent singers with his song "Koit" achieving anthem status. Over the recent years he has successfully concentrated on performing his own music, often the only accompaniment being himself on he piano. The music performed by Tõnis Mägi has always been diverse and constantly changing. For decades he has sung different kind of songs that range between blues, jazz, rock, folk music.
