Biographies:
1) The Numbers were an Australian power pop band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1978 which was active in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The core of the band consisted of brother and sister Chris and Annalise Morrow.
The Numbers supported XTC on their 1978 Australian tour before releasing a 1979 EP ('Govt Boy'), two LPs (1980's self-titled debut and 1982's follow-up, '39-51') and a number of singles. The band ended in 1983.
At different points, The Numbers contained the following players: -Annalise Morrow - bass, vocals -Chris Morrow - guitar, vocals -Simon Vidale - drums -Graham Bidstrup - drums (ex-The Angels) -John Bliss - drums (ex-The Reels) -Craig Bloxom - bass(ex-v Spy v Spy) -Russell Handley - keyboard, guitar (ex-Popular Mechanics) -Marty Newcombe - drums -Colin Newham - keyboard, bass (ex-The Reels) -Marcus Phelan - guitar -Gary Roberts - bass (ex-Moving Parts)
Chris and Annalise Morrow went on to form MPM in 1990 and Maybe Dolls in 1991. The latter band released an album, 'Propaganda', and three singles. One of these, 'Nervous Kid', reached #23 in Australia September 1991. Maybe Dolls supported Big Audio Dynamite on their 1992 Australian tour.
2) Brisbane band The Riptides were also known as The Numbers early in their career. The first pressing of their debut single 'Sunset Strip' was released under this name. The subsequent pressing was released as The Riptides.
3) A Sussex-based four-piece punk(y)/powerpop band formed in 1978. Not to be confused with the Bristol group of the same name.
