"The Narcs" was the name of at least three groups: 1) One of the most underrated bands of today from the most underrated scene of today. I was fortunate enough to play with these guys twice and hang out with them a bunch in Rochester on the BIRTH DEFORMITIES tour and it was a fucking blast. These guys are as fun in person as they are live. Every show was incredibly tight and literally everybody in Rochester knows the words to their songs, it was a madhouse. 1) One of the most underrated bands of today from the most underrated scene of today. My favorite song on here is "Rat Bone." That intro sounds like it's taken straight from a Jimi Hendrix song or something. The rest of the record has a real lo-fi, surf-feel to it, aside from "High Robot," which sounds like something along the line of THE SPITS. Buy this record if you haven't already, idiot. LONG LIVE ROTCORE!
2) A classic rock / powerpop band that formed in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1982 and who quickly rose to become one of New Zealand's most popular bands. They were together until the early 1990s. The four members were Tony Waine (Bass/Vocals) and Steve Clarkson (Drums) (who now play together in the Auckland band Snorkel). Andy Dickson (Guitar/Vocals) (who has recorded and performed with Ghostwriters and Shanley Del) has a Brisbane based recording studio Fabcd Recording Services. Liam Ryan (Keyboard/Vocals) plays with his band The Torch Songs Band and is working on a solo album project M2M (Mississippi To Mauao).
One of their best known songs is their 1984 hit (You Took Me) Heart and Soul which won the New Zealand Music Most Popular Song of the Year Award in 1984 and was later released in nine other countries, launching the band internationally. In 1999 the song was re-released as the theme song for Hamilton's new millennium.
