review of Audio Sonic Love Affair by Colin Gray Audio Sonic Love Affair is a blistering, power packed burst of guitar fuelled rock n roll. With four prolific and competent songwriters and three lead vocalists, the Dubrovniks gave us an album chock full of riff laden guitar tunes that come hurtling at you like a freight train. Recorded in December 1989 and eventually seeing release in 1990, the album was produced by Kevin ‘Caveman’ Shirley, who managed to capture the band’s live sound and translate it onto record. The album kicks off with the title track. ‘Audio Sonic Love Affair’ is a neat, stripped back affair that captures the intensity of the band without sacrificing the humour, harmony or power of their delivery. The first single lifted off the album ‘She Got No Love’ is a pure rock classic. Short, sharp and driven by big, fat guitars. Lime Spider Mick Blood adds his distinctive vocals on the chorus. James Baker’s primitive drum sound (which has become his trademark) is a central part of the Dubrovniks sound. The Dubrovniks broke up in 1995.
