The songs alone are pieces that alternate between riff driven, humorous and hooky numbers that seem like instant hits, like "True Believer" and "Bricks", to the more melancholic and indulgent pieces that Jacks lets us wander into, like "Pure Life" and Dragged Down and Out." Sonically, the album is a lush landscape planted with a myriad of interesting and original sounds like understated and well constructed guitars along with unusual effects, like vocals sung through the sound hole of a guitar, the use of toy instruments, and other recording techniques that frustrated engineers working with the artist, but delights us as listeners.
