Story One were British alternative rock band, formed in Nottingham, United Kingdom in 2002. The band comprised of Thomas Evans (lead vocals, violin, keyboard), Barny Barratt (lead guitarist), Gérald Youna (bass guitarist) and Mike Woolf (drums). Signed by Shy Records in 2004 they have since released 2 studio albums and have clocked up hundreds of gigs across the UK, Europe and the U.S.
Story One recorded their debut album Disposable in a castle in France where it was produced by Jim Birkett. The album was mixed and co-produced in London with Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro) and Chris Potter (The Verve). In mid August 2006, they took the bold step to release the album as a free download on their website.
In October 2007 the band released their second studio album The Shadow Line inspired by the novel by Joseph Conrad of the same name. The album included a cover version of Grandaddy's AM 180. Shortly after the release of the album their record company (Shy) sadly went into receivership, leaving the band without a label. Despite this they vowed to carry on performing and promoting themselves independantly.
In 2008 Story One took the decision to disolve after bass guitarist Gérald Youna returned to live in his native France. However, in the summer of 2009 the band reformed under the new name of 5 Cent Theatre, introducing two new members, Jess Barratt (bass guitarist) and Pete Simon (cello) to the existing band line-up.
Their empassioned song writing and original violin tinged rock has won them many fans. More information can be found on www.myspace.com/storyone. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
