Toronto-based pop musician/composer/video artist was born in Ottawa, Canada, grew up in Holland, Germany and Washington D.C.
In the early days, Spookey's parents insisted he take up an instrument and so he chose classical guitar. At age 13 he got his hands on an electric guitar and wound up spending the rest of his teenage years playing in array of hardcore and speed metal bands (most notable: TRANSILIENCE). It was at this time that he received his nickname "Spooky" as a result of high school pals ribbing him about his metal-worshipping appearance of long hair and satanic T-shirt.
At 19 he moved to Toronto, enrolled in film school at York University, but kept his musical ideas rolling on a 4-track recorder... Spookey began developing his affinity for the brighter sounds of pop, mixing up keyboards with distorted guitars and voices high and low, refining his own kaleidoscopic visions. These experiments lead to his solo debut album 'Modes of Transportation Vol. 1" A bunch of critical acclaim internationally (primarily in Europe and Asia) and local praise following the simultaneous release of 2 separate CDs entitled 'Bed' and 'Breakfast' (Hi-Hat/Zomba) Finally arriving at Spookey's latest independent album: 'ALONE AT THE ZOO' co-produced by John McEntire of Tortoise/The Sea and Cake. Now, backed by a smashing new Live band (THE MIRACLE BABIES) (Mike Boito (formerly w/ BECK) on keys / Carson Cohen: bass / Adam Marcello: drums), Spookey and crew will be touring up along the west coast, through Japan and back to Europe with many more surprises to come in the near future.
