SCANDINAVIA are an aspirational indie rock band based in London, UK. Their 'adult contemporary' songs shamelessly celebrate and mock the male middle-class libido, touching on topics such as gap years, easy jet holidays, tabloid obsessions, leisure pursuits, teenage nostalgia, and gentrification.
They have released three albums to date. Their first album, ‘Good Living’ (2011), was an exploration of what it means to live a good life, and sported a dynamic ski-action shot on its cover. Musically the album was heavy on Beach Boys-style vocal harmonies and classic US indie guitar riffs.
Their second album, 'The Gods' (2012), paid lip service to an enduring concern with the theosophical dimensions of rock music, but consisted of an eclectic collections of songs ranging in sound from Slade-like big rock to pompous Paul Simon-esque ethnographic sounds .
With their third effort 'Big Noise!', the band brings the themes of their first two albums together, posing searching questions about humanity, mortality, and transcendence. Musically, though, the band returns on 'Big Noise!' to the pop punk chord sequences of their youths, offering a more stripped-down sound with far less of the harmonies for which they became famous.
SCANDINAVIA is currently writing material for an EP called 'Ideology'. The band claim that it will be their most ambitious and nonsensical album to date. Musical reference points for the new EP include Tom Petty and the Cocteau Twins.
