Sal y Mileto is a three piece rock act from Ecuador, they define themselves as ¨Ecuatorian Free Rock¨ being the first Ecuadorian rock band to coin that statement as style. The line up have change over the years due the tragic dead of the lead singer.
Influenced by grunge, classic hardcore, progressive rock, and tradicional folk music from Ecuador; Sal y Mileto´s started in 1994, and by 1998 the line up was consistent, Paul Segovia -guitar, and lead voice- Igor Icaza -Drums, back vocals- Franko -Bass, chorus- recording 4 major records, all of them shake the Ecuatorian underground scene and many singles was taken to soundtracks and mainstream in latin american films, tv shows, theatrer and being the strongest influence to any Ecuadorian band ever since 2000, those records: cero, 1, in situ and 3, are part of the Ecuatorian Rock history. Always experimenting and evolving the music is well balanced between excepcional lyrics, complex time signatures and changes, jamming, wind instruments, and long technical instrumental passages.
Since the dead of lead guitar / singer Paul Segovia all 4 Sal y Mileto records became cult CD´s. Sal y Mileto return to the Rock scene in 2007 with Lucho-P-lucho -guitar and chorus- and the band start a new era.
The band didn't loose there strength and by summer 2007 they made up there first European tour being a major success for any Ecuatorian Rock band. The new LP containing rarities and outtakes of the old Sal y Mileto´s era is about to launch on mid 2008, there also promise a snapshot of the new Sal y Mileto sound.
By many Sal y Mileto have written hymns of the Ecuatorian rock, the developing of the lyrics are influenced and some written by Peky Andino an Ecuatorian Poet, acclaimed script writer and director. Songs such as ¨El principito es un guambra de la calle¨ and ¨Aguanta¨, are considered cornerstones in Ecuatorian Rock, being lyrics a big part of the success; politically heavy and well poetic conceived.
