New Orleans' Royal Fingerbowl formed in the Spring of 1995. The original lineup was Kufaru Mouton on drum set, Andy Wolf on bass and vocals and Alex McMurray on guitar and vocals. After a few shows Kufaru was replaced on drums by Kevin O'Day. That version of the band recorded a 12 song demo tape in November 1995 to sell at shows. This tape fell into the wrong hands and soon the band was signed to [/abel]TVT records. The band recorded Happy Birthday, Sabo! for them in 1997. They toured around in a van for a few years opening for bands like Ween, The Squirrel Nut Zippers and Los Lobos. Along the way O'Day was replaced by Carlo Nuccio. This version of the band recorded 2000's Greyhound Afternoons. Soon after that recording Matt Perrrine replaced Andy Wolf on bass. The band broke up on October 23 2001, but continues to play to this day, more or less, under the name "Alex McMurray Band". Read more on Last.fm.
