Robert Plant and Alison Krauss met at a tribute concert to Leadbelly, and decided to collaborate. They crafted an album together in 2007 titled Raising Sand. The album featured production by T-Bone Burnett and songwriting by Plant, Tom Waits, Sam Phillips, Townes Van Zandt and Gene Clark among others.
Throughout 2008, Plant and Krauss, along with Burnett, toured in support of the album. The tour was critically acclaimed.
On Feb. 8, 2009, Raising Sand took Album of the Year honors at the Grammy awards. In addition, the song "Please Read the Letter" (a Plant/Page composition) won Record of the Year, and Krauss and Plant nabbed a third award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
A follow up album to Raising Sand is in the works. However, a release date is unknown as both Plant and Krauss are currently working on their own solo projects.
According to Ken Irwin of Rounder Records, and producer Burnett, the duo started work on a second album in 2009. In a 2010 interview, Plant indicated that the follow-up sessions were unsuccessful.
