Emerging from the backyards of Waipahu, Hawaii, Rebel Souljahz began as four friends born with a drive to perform. They started singing acapella together in high school, later developing into a full band where they quickly built a name for themselves performing at parties and in the clubs of Honolulu.
Their debut effort, Nothing To Hide, teams the boys of Rebel Souljahz (Mike Maglinti, Will Su’a, Bubba Hodges and Kulani Cozo) with producer/arranger Imua Garza (Opihi Pickers, Kaipo, Kawao) for a full-blown all original island music extravaganza.
With standout tracks like “Darling Angel”, “Nothing To Hide” and “The One”, the music of Rebel Souljahz will quickly appeal to mainstream island music enthusiasts and lovers of Hawaii’s local island reggae.
The groups signature vocal sound can be heard on the ballad “I’m Not The Man For You” featuring the sweet tenor lead vocals of Will Su’a juxtaposed against the rough soulful lead vocals of Mike Maglinti and then augmented by the tight harmonies of Bubba Hodges and Kulani Cozo.
Also featured on Nothing To Hide are the reggae party anthems “Irie Beach Party”, and “Countryside Party”, two songs that have already been getting the party started at clubs and are sure to get the party started wherever there is a music player.
“Skankin’”, a slower groove adaptation of the roots song “Hawaiian Souljahs” from local group Wainui, is a guaranteed dance floor filler that will put the most timid listener in the mood to skank.
A 4-song preview from Nothing To Hide was added to the Rebel Souljahz MySpace in early January 2008 to an overwhelming response and often generated more MP3 plays per day than any other island music artist from Hawaii.
A music video for the song “Nothing To Hide” is currently in production and will be completed soon. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
