Reason to Believe were the most atypical of the mid-late 1980's Southern California hardcore bands. Reason to Believe were the most atypical of the mid-late 1980's Southern California hardcore bands. Their lyrics were poetic and talked about personally meaningful topics like love and respect for women, and poetry itself, and stood apart from the obtuse LA-NYC scene warfare double-talk, and anthemy finger-pointing songs of the day, they were more influenced by DC bands than by any of their local peers. However, this doesn't mean they did not play anthems which invoked many a pointed finger sing-along, these inspiring themes touched on the authentic eternal positive-life struggle. They also have received a lot of attention because of their having melded into the post-hardcore emo band Sensefield, after a line-up change.
