1) A 4-piece jazz band based in Tokyo, Japan and was formed in 2002. Their sound is based on authentic jazz rhythms from the 60s and 70s and has been linked with similar Jap-Jazz bands like Soil & "Pimp" Sessions and Sleep Walker. With a mixed club and latin feel they deliver all their music live and have gained a strong support in their native Japan.
quasimode consists of Yusuke Hirado (Piano), Takahiro "Matzz" Matsuoka (Percussions), Kazuhiro Sunaga (Bass), and Takashi Okutsu (drums), but is often acting with various guests. The demonstration, created with Masato Komatsu (Slowly) as the producer, attracted Kei Kobayashi’s attention, and it was collected in "Routine Jazz #07" of August 2005. Another demo, the cover of Tubby Hayes' classic hit "Down in the village", got to Mad Mats who is the owner of Raw Fusion in Sweden. He offered the pre-release as 12-inch single. This single was released in April 2006.
In July 2006, the first album "oneself-LIKENESS" was released and quasimode became popular in Japan. After that, the second single "Ipe Amarelo" was released by Raw Fusion. This single included the remix version of Spiritual South in U.K. and was nominated "Track of the Year" by Gilles Peterson in his BBC radio show "World Wide". In September 2007, quasimode released their second album "The Land of Freedom".
