Although they formally never disbanded and have released albums in the 1990s and 21st century, they may be regarded an early eighties powerpop band: their three modest hits in the Dutch Top 40 (including their début 45, 'Love Can Break Your Heart') were released in 1981-1983. Début album, Avanti and the Walk The Wire EP were also released in those years.
The group's early eighties singles got plenty of airplay, they did several tours as the support-act of Dutch legends Golden Earring and even toured Canada, but the expected 'big break' never materialized.
Powerplay has released at least one album in every decade since the 1980s, most recently in 2013 (the album Radio Harlem), but the band is currently inactive, which is mainly due to Van der Meij's great success as a member of Beatles tribute group, The Analogues, since 2014.
2. Powerplay is a Swedish band that performs its own live interpretations of classic Nintendo 8-bit songs, such as 'Mega Man', 'Castlevania', 'Rush 'n' Attack' and 'Gunsmoke'. Powerplay is a live band: all recordings are from live sessions. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
