PADI was originally one of the campus bands in Airlangga University (Unair), Surabaya, Indonesia. Formed in 1996 they were called Soda before eventually dubbed as Padi. Padi is Indonesian for “rice”. Padi's lineup consisted of Andi Fadly Arifuddin (Fadly, vocalist), Surendro Prasetyo Yoyok, drummer), Satriyo Yudhi Wahono (Piyu, guitarist), Ari Tri Sosianto (Ari, guitarist), and Rindra Risyanto Noor (Rindra, bassist).
