Hailing from the suburbs of the San Francisco Bay Area, Overwhelming Colorfast were a local favorite in 1991-92. The original line-up was Bob Reed on guitar and vocals, brother Dan Reed on drums and backing vocals,Torg Halin on guitar and Steve "Bean" Espaniola on bass and backing vocals. They released one EP on a local label before being singed to Relativity Records in 1992. Their debut was produced by Butch Vig. Vig's production and mix cleaned up Colorfast's raw sound, robbing them of their energy. Following that release they toured the U.S. on their own before hitting the road with The Ramones and Social Distortion. Their sophomore release, Two Words, was produced by Kurt Bloch of Seattle's The Fastbacks. Bloch understood the Colorfast aesthetic ,and the result was an album that better captured their sound. This would be the last time all four original members would record together. Matt Harris, later of Oragner and The Posies, replaced Halin on guitar. The new line-up recorded the EP, Sourdough. The next few years would see the departure of Dan Reed and Espaniola before the recording of the third, and final, album, Moonlights and Castanets. Founding member Bob Reed was the only original member to play on Castanets. Bob would eventually disband Colorfast and move on to other projects, including joining former band mate Harris in Oranger for a time. In February 2012 all four original member would get together for a reunion show at San Francisco's Bottom of the Hill for Noise Pop's 20th anniversary. Read more on Last.fm.
