Nikolaj & Piloterne are a Danish pop / rock group with Nikolaj Christensen in the lead. Nikolaj Christensen began his musical career in the mid-1980s when he, after having played in various bands in Copenhagen was the frontman in Shoeshine, there was little in the direction of Thin Lizzy / Phil Lynott. The young singer with the hoarse voice was quickly spotted by a record company, and he got a solo contract that gave him a major breakthrough with the debut album Pilots from 1989, which made him a teen idol in Denmark. On subsequent records - both with and without its pilots - Nikolai moved gradually away from the teen pop rock appellant towards a more adult, roots-rock expression.
The latest album Mand! appeared in 2009. The songs on the album are written in collaboration with Mads Haugaard and Marcus Winther-John, produced by Frank Birch Pontoppidan and recorded with the singer's real band pilots and various guests.
