Lena Katina has already earned herself a spot in today’s music history as the redhead vocalist from the scandalously famous pop sensation t.A.T.u. Today, after having earned acclaim for the past decade with her band, Lena announces the launch of her solo career and “keeps the horizon high”. In 2011, Katina released her first mainstream single Never Forget, which in 2011 reached No. 1 on the MTV Russia Top 10 and also won the MTV Russia - 2011 Video Of The Year. The track also reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and reached No. 1 in Greece.
Lena’s earliest exposure to music was through her father, who is a well-known musician in Russia. Born and raised on the songs of Queen, Pink Floyd and Roxette, Lena was classically trained on piano from the age of seven. In 1999, at the age of 14, Lena was cast in the new music project t.A.T.u. which marked an impressive change in her life. Throughout her 10 years with t.A.T.u she has toured over half the world doing concerts. Lena has performed on a large variety of ranging from circus rings and clubs in Moscow, London and Paris to the stadiums Tokyo Dome and Wembley. Despite t.A.T.u.’s undeniable success – both creatively and commercially – including many worldwide chart topping hits such as "All The Things She Said", "Not Gonna Get Us" and "All About Us", Lena Katina recently started to press forward as a solo artist. Still extremely ambitious, Lena decided to return to the US in 2009. There she began work on her first solo record together with her musicians, who turned out to be great songwriters as well. In 2009-2010 this creative team managed to record a dozen songs which were first presented to the public in May 2010 at Lena’s first solo gig in the legendary club Troubadour (Los Angeles).
After this memorable performance two others followed: in June 2010 Lena headlined at PrideFest in Milwaukee and in September she packed San-Francisco’s 1015 Folsom. At both solo shows Lena Katina – an electrifying front woman with melodic pop rock tunes – showed her soulful music filled with romantic lyrics and catchy hooks perfect for the clubs. In September 2010 Lena was invited to perform at The Billboard Magazine Party in Moscow where everybody could see why fans and followers have been falling for her in the first place: a thrilling voice that can be recognized amongst thousands. After Lena’s 10 years in music, it looks like she doesn’t want to stop. “I’ve done a lot in t.A.T.u. and now it’s the perfect time to find and show who I really am”, Lena shares. She now splits her time between her native city of Moscow and LA, the perfect place for making music. Read more on Last.fm.
