1) Laura Smith (died March 7, 2020) was a Canadian folk singer-songwriter. She is best remembered for her 1995 single "Shade of Your Love", one of the year's biggest hits on adult contemporary radio stations in Canada, and for her adaptation of the Scottish folk song "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean" which she entitled "My Bonny". She recorded a version of this with The Chieftains, which they erroneously listed as "My Bonnie" on their album Fire in the Kitchen. In December 2010, that version received a nod for Song of the Decade from Bill Margeson at LiveIreland.
2) Laura Smith (March 1882 – February 1932) was an American classic female blues and country blues singer. Songs she recorded include "Gonna Put You Right in Jail" and her version of "Don't You Leave Me Here". She led Laura Smith and her Wild Cats and also worked with Clarence Williams and Perry Bradford.
3) Laura Smith is an American old-time/folk/bluegrass guitarist, banjo player, and singer.
4) Laura Smith is a Canadian indie-pop artist previously a member of the duo Rococode. Debut album, “Sea of Stars” by North Vancouver/ Victoria artist Smith, was released on their Western Canada tour in November 2008. From pop/alternative to jazz, folk & rock, the songs segue across a wide spectrum of genres without sacrificing quality. With cabaret-style accordion, walls of guitar feedback, lilting piano ballads and elated horn sections unified by Laura's strong vocal performance.
“It doesn’t require a lot of listening to be taken in by Laura Smith. Her songs are colourful, stripy socks with old jeans and T-shirt. They are as catchy as they are unassuming. You can’t help but take notice.” Carolyn Nikodym (Edmonton Vue Weekly).
After humble beginnings as a "girl with piano" project, followed by stints with other bands (Said the Whale and Prairie Cat), Laura Smith formed her own band. Andrew Braun (guitar, keys, vocals) provides layers of vocals and instrumentation while Greg Bevis (drums, vocals) and Jeff Riedlinger (bass) provide the rhythmic backbone. Having met at jazz school, they maintain a studious approach toward crafting new songs and are constantly tweaking and improving arrangements of older ones. They have "created a masterpiece and a live show that’s both entertaining and memorable" (Ronotron live reviews)
“…one can only predict that Laura Smith has an incredible future ahead of her, not only on the Canadian music scene, but we should also be hearing more from her on the international stage as well." -Joe Montague (Riveting Riffs – Vancouver Plaza Club) Read more on Last.fm.
