LB 27 - REGGAE FROM HUNGARY!
This group comprised Tibi "T.B.Homelock" Bodnár b. 1965 (The Boss, guitar, vocal), Miksa M. László b. 1968 (lead vocal), Tamás "Rastamás" Árokszállási b.1967 (drums), István "Rasta" Hertelendi b.1965 (bass), Zoltán "Apu" Bokó b.1971 (keyboards) and Levente "Lewy Brandy" Pálinkás b.1966 (percussion, keyboards, vocal). All the members were born in Hungary. Named after the form issued to call number of a work's camp in 1985.
The band has begun to play reggae after listening to Bob Marley's Babilon by Bus concert album. First, they toured with a program of ska songs, later roots reggae had more and more emphasis on their music that is best shown on the first album by the song called 'Rastafari'. This first album was a revolutionary event in 1991 since nobody had released a reggae album before in Hungary. That's how the band won the eMeRton prize of the Hungarian Radio Stations.
The success of the second album can be connected with the song called 'Keep on Picking' (Szedegetem) which became the first Hungarian reggae hit and stayed on the top of the lists for weeks. The band first played Bob Marley's songs on the following 'Live' album that was recorded on a charity concert with 3000 people.
For the fiftieth anniversary of Bob Marley's birth, the band released an album with their favourite Bob Marley songs.
Before the fourth album we toured in Jamaica and recorded two videoclipsand made a short film about the journey. As a result of the live appearancesin the heartland of reggae, LB 27 was invited to play on the prestigious SUNSPLASH and SUMFEST festivals.
For the fiftieth anniversary of Bob Marley's birth, the band released an album with their favourite Bob Marley songs.
The 6th album of LB 27 came out in November 1996 titled 'Pozitív'(Positive) and released by EMI-Quint.
.'Kell egy ház ' is the title of the band's 7th album. This old Natural Ites song (Picture on the Wall) has become the best known reggae song in Hungary ever thus their earlier publisher released a 'best of' album with songs from their first four albums.
LB27 continuously makes efforts to make reggae well-known in Hungary since in the 60'-70'-80's , the local radio stations simply ignored reggae music thus it stayed almost completely unknown untill these days. Except for Marley's best known songs, they played only the disco-effected hits, that's why LB 27 plays several different styles such as: roots, dub, dancehall, ragga, ska. On the concerts, summer festivals, university organizations, thousands of people dance to their music, not mentiomimg those club programs(Jammin' Reggae Party) where they play songs form Alpha Blondy to The Wailers as LB Reggae Sound System in a DJ program. The first Hungarian internet radio (http://www.para.c3.hu/paraggae), the ParaGgae worths mentioning as well, where on Wednesdays you can listen to reggae music chosen by the band.
One of the band's most memorable events was the Carlos Santana concert in Budapest 1996, where the band could play Bob Marley's Exodus together with Santana and his band. On an other occassion, Miksa could sing 'Get up, Stand up' together with Pato Banton on the Malibu Reggae Mix in the same year.
The band gives concerts both in Hungary and abroad thus they could take part in Rototom Sunsplash last year. Mr. Rae Barrett took notice of the band and invited them to Jamaica where this February in Ocho Rios LB27 and The Wailers played 'One Love' together on the Bob Marley birthday concert.
LB27 and One Drop Promotions organise the only reggae festival in Hungary. This international fest is one of the biggest in Eastern Europe.
