Kolumbus Kris, founded 1987 in Tallinn, Estonia, is playing electric blues and southern boogie. They are influenced by legendary blues artists like Robert Johnson and Elmore James, also by prominent rock’n’roll artists like Dr. Feelgood, George Thorogood, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top.
The band was formed by five professional musicians who had gathered years of experience by playing in various other groups (ex-members of Gunnar Graps Band, Music Safe & Tõnis Mägi, etc. all well known bands in the 1980's Soviet Union and later Russia).
In the 90’s Kolumbus Kris committed hundreds of live gigs on various stages and clubs all over Estonia. Also international showcases all over Scandinavia: touring Finland, Sweden, playing in clubs as well in MC meetings (among them all-European SuperRallye’97 in Sweden). In the mid 90's, while the band toured Sweden's clubs and pubs, they also gave several prison performances. Later followed by several club gigs in Denmark and music festivals in Latvia and Lithuania.
From the beginning of 90’s Kolumbus Kris has consigned several recordings covering blues classics and also their own material. They released a couple of vinyls and several CD’s:
1994 - CD "If You Don't Like" – one of the first Compact Disc's by an estonian artist. 1996 - CD "Under Cover" – included two songs in estonian.
2005 saw the release of another CD "See on voodoo", their first record with only estonian lyrics. The songs were recorded and mixed in 2004 at Hannu Leiden's studios in Helsinki, Finland. At the same time the legendary Hanoi Rocks was preparing their new material in the same studio. Somehow Kolumbus Kris got Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy to take part in some of Kolumbus Kris songs as guest artists.
In the year 2007 (to celebrate the bands birthday) they released a 3CD compilation album with old tracks from 1987-1994. Some of those never before recorded, others taken from early cassettes and vinyl's.
Kolumbus Kris has remained a basic compound of rock’n’roll, drum-bass-guitar and vocals with still having lots of guest artists on additional instruments either in studios or on the stage.
