Kaseva is a legendary Finnish rock group. Similary to lots of other Suomi-rock acts, Kaseva doesn't really fit any genre definition. Kaseva was formed in the late 60s and continued to rehearse in the cellar for years without anyone knowing about them. At some point in the early 70s they sent an English language demo to Love Records, a now legendary record label from Helsinki. Kaseva was to sign a record deal with one condition, the songs should be in Finnish. The lyrics were translated and Kaseva's debyt album Silloin kun, was released 1974. It's notable that the band didn't have a name before the release of the album. The word Kaseva is from the Finnish national epic, Kalevala and means handy or convenient.
Kaseva played its first gig 5.2.1975
The second album, Kun maailma elää was released 1976 and it showed the group's talent for vocal harmonics (in the vein of the late greats, The Beatles) and also housed some brilliant arrangements, which can be partly credited to Otto Donner, the producer.
Kaseva's third full length album, and so far the last one, was released in 1982. It was titled Meidän huoneessa. Unfortunately Asko Raivio, the principal songwriter and composer, died on 1989 and Kaseva hasn't released any new material since 1982.
Kaseva is still active, pulling gigs all over Finland and enjoying the wide respect of many musicians in the Finnish music world. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
