Kalpataru Tree is a musical project dedicated to the communication of a language beyond words. Utilizing heavy bass and dub rhythm as a foundation – the musical forms take off into vast uncharted spaces – ranging from ambient and drifting, rooted and mellow, exciting and inspirational, awesome and transcendent. These are true prayers of sound dedicated and designed to give your soul room to dream – reflections and expressions of the great mystery.
Kalpataru Tree resonates within the electronica genres of psy-dub, ambient, and downtempo, but pushes beyond into unique layers of organic instrumentation, live bass, guitar, drums, singing, rattles, digjiridoo, flute, mandolin, djembe, bongo – any sound that contributes to lifting the vibration further into the essence of what it is that needs to be expressed. Drawing from the infinite possibilities of sound design offered by computers – and blending with live instrumentation of recordings – music whirls forth into being, manifested into the songs in which “Kalpataru Tree” represents.
The man behind the project is producer and musician, Curtis Humphrey, a longtime resident of the Cascadian bio-region, and presently residing near Ashland, OR. Producing and playing music all his life, a pivotal moment was being exposed experientially to what psychedelic forms of electronica music can do to ones consciousness. Already skilled in both the use of computer software to compose music – and a keen ability to “tune in” to a variety of instruments – the musical direction was set, and a lifetime of devotion to sound design had begun.
Joining Kalpataru Tree on the journey in sound have been many guest musicians, Drea Drury from Canada made several appearances, as has Wahkeena Sitka - a fellow oregonian, and many, many other surprise guest artists, both live and in the studio.
The Kalpataru Tree musical project surfaced in 2006 and has produced 3 albums to date and appeared on several internationally distributed compilation CD’s. The music has been heard nationwide on “Echoes” radio and “Musical Starstreams” in addition to being promoted through online radio such as “Fluid Radio” out of the UK.
Kalpataru Tree has also toured extensively, some notable festivals being several years at “Emerg-n-see” festival in Oregon and “Priceless” thrown by False-Profit out of the Bay Area, as well as headlining “Chillography 202” in Seattle. In addition have been many magical experiences at festivals, parties, and shows all throughout the Cascadian bioregion.
That being said, the journey has just begun, and continuing to create works of music and spread and share these vibrations to others is the mission and devotion of “Kalpataru Tree”. Looking forward to many new forms of expression assembled into albums -> published, distributed, aired, and featured on radio, concerts, events, homes, cars, continents, all over this giant earth for whomever wants to listen.
…..In devotion to expressing the mystery through sound……
……….thank you for listening………..…..
