Kalapács is a heavy metal bandf from Budapest, Hungary, formed by József Kalapács. He was a member of legendary band Pokolgép (still active), performing vocals on the first official full-length metal album ever released in Hungary (Pokolgép - 1986 - Totális metál). They recorded four more albums together, then József Kalapács and László Nagyfi decided to leave the band. After leaving Pokolgép, in 1990 he formed Omen along with other an ex-Pokolgép member, László Nagyfi. They made 5 albums. After releasing "Idegen anyag" in 1997 he left Omen and recorded a solo album.
Kalapács is his current metal band. Kalapács, which is his real family name. It all started as a project back in 2000 when he and other Hungarian metal artist decided to record some classic unreleased Pokolgép songs and release them on an album. Since Pokolgép was still an active band, they decided to release it under József's name. The album was recorded by the members of the Ossian and produced by Endre Paksi. Later József decided to form a band, andcontinue with this name. In 2000, he formed the Kalapács.
In 2010, the band celebrated its 10th year anniversary with a best of album and a 1000 pieces limited anniversary box which includes 3 CDs and a DVD. They both titled as "Dühös Nemzedék". The best of album has 16 songs from the first 10 years, and a new song "Dühös Nemzedék".
Their 8th studio album "Poklok és Mennyek között", released in April 30th in 2012. The limited first press has a bonus concert CD, which was recorded in 18 February 2012, in Club 202, Budapest.
