He was a recipient of a Rockefeller Foundation Songwriting Grant, which enabled him to travel around the State of New York, interview local residents, gather stories and write songs based on his experiences. His project is called “Songs of the Finger Lakes.” His recording "Able Baker Charlie & Dog" was awarded 2009 Album of the Year by the International Folk Alliance. He is stomping loud in minor keys and story songs and jamborees.
