Jo was born and raised in Munich, Germany. At the age of six he started playing the organ, piano and drums. Even though playing existing music was how he started out, it soon became clear he wanted to create his own music. Music that is boundless and allowed him to express himself freely. Not having to adhere to rules and structure fascinated him most. While music can be strongly based in theory, Jo always trusted his instincts and strong sense for a certain sound aesthetic to craft something unique and timeless.
Music is his sacred space and his companion in difficult times. When life gets tough, music is always there for him and gives him a tool to channel his emotions and create pieces that in essence are snapshots of his momentary emotional states.
Jo has worked with some of the best musicians in the industry that helped him amplify his vision and paint musical pictures in the brightest colors imaginable.
He worked with leading Motion Picture Advertising companies in Los Angeles, scored short films, documentaries, feature films, and provided the signature theme music for New Zealand’s greatest show event in Wellington "World Of Wearable Art". One of his dreams came true when he was commissioned to write original music for various projects at the helm of Lord Of The Rings-creators, Richard Taylor and Peter Jackson.
Jo's compositions have been featured in some of the biggest motion picture advertising campaigns in the world such as The House With A Clock In Its Walls, Colette, Wonder Woman, Jupiter Ascending, 300 - Rise Of An Empire, Beauty And The Beast, How To Train Your Dragon, The Hunger Games, Assassin's Creed, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, The Wolfman, Lincoln, X-Men First Class and many more.
What Jo loves most about his vocation is the impact his music has on the lives of those who listen to it. Receiving feedback from filmmakers and fans of his music adds fuel to his fire and motivates him to excel at his craft every day. Read more on Last.fm.
