In 1981, at the age of 30 and from reasons unknown, Jiří died after jumping from the Old Bridge in Bratislava. As neither his relatives or close friends could identify his dead body, many of Schelinger's fans believe that he survived the jump and spend the rest of his life in peace and quiet.
