Remembered mainly for being Mighty Mighty Bosstones lead singer Dicky Barrett's first band, Impact Unit was part of the original XClaim "Boston Crew" in the early eighties. The band was formed in October of '82 by Dicky Barrett on vocals, Sam on bass, Julie on drums, and Ross Luongo on guitar. Their demo, eventually released in 1989 by Germany's Crucial Response Records (and later on CD by the Bosstones-run label Big Rig), is in the style of fellow bands such as Negative FX or DYS. It has a slightly less serious feel to it, though... hey, at least they never went metal!
The band broke up in 1983, whereby Barrett formed the Cheapskates and Luongo joined DYS. Sam and Julie started other bands; Sam went on to form Feeding Frenzy (around from 1985-1987) and later on the much beloved hard rocking Chloe (1990-1993) which was "not metal, not punk, just brutal!" He also did a brief stint with Kilslug as one of the many guitarist on call at the time. Tracks from the Impact Unit demo, played on the Maximum Rock'n'Roll radio show, also appeared on the 1984 tape compilation Empty Skulls. Read more on Last.fm.
