We are proud to announce the liberation of Tipsy Hax, iameb 57’s debut release for Nueva Forma. Sample it, buy it, download it, surrender to its greatness. As you will find, there is something phenomenal about listening to a composer who knows his way around every detail and intricacy of his craft. The medium becomes a symphony; allow your aural cavity to be its hall. It’s hard to know exactly what to expect from a given artist in a genre as controversial and widely spread as IDM. With that said, what blew us away upon review of Tipsy Hax was how much terrain iameb 57 manages to cover in this 19-track release. From the more pastoral and bucolic tracks “Unreliable” and “Fail” to the undeniably groovy, beat-heavy dance cuts like the title track, iameb 57 may have just hit on all you could ever want without feeling frantic or disorderly. Where he appears most at home (and indeed what populates the majority of the album and makes it a cohesive offering) is in the grittier and more industrial sounds of glitch. The landscape throughout is as hard and intricate as the steel and mirrored-glass façades of his New York youth: urban mazes built and shattered, deconstructed and reinterpreted. A handful of tracks have the critical mass of a minimalist sound artist at work. Check out “Washing jpegs” and “Allergies” to hear him rip the city down completely. And while this could seem chaotic solely for the sake of chaos, we never feel a lack of the human compassion that so often eludes electronic art music. As in “You put me on pause”, emotive and beautifully clear samples peer through the jungle and take to the forefront. There is always the sense that behind the digitally disarrayed fragments sits a composer writing melodies and songs. It’s not enough that iameb 57 has mastery of his electro-domain, which he could exhibit in far more alienating ways. His plan goes one step beyond to draw the listener in and share with them his world.
