One of Benson's stronger outings during his stint with the CTI label, but not on the same level as Beyond the Blue Horizon or White Rabbit. This offering combines some of the pop flavorings that dominated too many of his sessions during the late '70s and '80s. Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" is the gem here, with Benson giving new life to this difficult piece. The remainder of the selections tend to be a bit over-arranged, but there are enough pentatonic flurries to keep guitar fans shaking their heads in disbelief. Despite the saccharine-filled arrangement of "Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams," Benson's chordal playing has never been more beautiful. A well-rounded and underrated effort. Read more on Last.fm.
