The founding words of Freud Marx Engels & Jung were proclaimed at the 1984 Provinssirock in Seinäjoki, Finland, where Pekka 'Freak Out' Myllykoski met Arto 'Pilli' Pajukallio in a bar. They had only recently met each other, but a8yealrea9dy they shared friends and similar thoughts about music, alcohol, and how they should be connected in a new band performing alcohol related outlaw country songs in finnish language.
The idea was to get the rock oriented listeners open up to important songwriters and a music style, that they often recented simply out of ignorance. The ideology was crafted on with no fear of consequences, thus slowly moving from theory to practice. FMEJ performed their early tours in 1985, and the debut album came out in august 1986. The basic mission was a success, but the band had a life of it's own. The original theme was, despite it's intrigue, fairly narrow in the long run, leading the group to extend their style to nearly any genre of music.
Amongst other themes, alcohol also kept a strong footing in the activities of FMEJ, leading to a long hiatus shortly after the group's 10th anniversary in 1994. After a few temp gigs they re-emerged in the spring of 1998, and have since then (showing mind-boggling stupidity) been active working and performing.
The current FMEJ are Pekka Myllykoski, Arto Pajukallio, Jukka Harju, Markus Raivio & Harri Rantanen. Ex-members include Mikko Saarela, Obo Austi, Esa Immonen, Kossu Hynynen, Ari Väänänen, Olli Haavisto, Jari Metsberg, Jussi Kinnunen, Jarmo Hynninen, Juha Sivonen, Pekka Virtanen, Reijo Heiskanen, Into Koponen, Jani Auvinen, Jari Luostari, Mika Lilja and Olli Krogerus.
FMEJ have performed in over one thousand shows and sold of 100,000 records.
Roadies, busses, agencies, wives, girlfriends, groupies, guitars, plectras, wires, drum sticks, cross word puzzles, decks of cards, pipes, ash trays, sleeves, nerves, brain cells and different kinds of bottles and cans have been consumed and in many ways destroyed perhaps even millions...
Pekka Myllykoski died in April 2017. The same day Arto Pajukallio announced that the band won't continue without Myllykoski.
