Frei Hermano da Câmara is a Portuguese Benedictine monk and fado singer with a Christian style whose career spans several decades and was most successful during the 1970s. Born Hermano Vasco Villar Cabral da Câmara on July 12, 1933, in Lisbon, Portugal, he made his recording debut in 1959 with Sunset and Sentimental, the first of numerous EPs released during the early phase of his career. While his recording activity slowed in the 1980s after peaking in the 1970s, he remained both active and popular in later years. For instance, the album Cantar é Rezar (2006) commemorated his 50-year anniversary as a performer while the best-of compilation Melhor de Frei Hermano da Câmara (2008) was a Top Ten hit upon its release. He also recorded several works with the legendary Portuguese progressive rock band Quarteto 1111.
