Originally conceived by Zappa as a Broadway musical the concept was first revealed, over numerous pictorial spreads, in 'Hustler' magazine in April '84 - the vinyl box-set following some 6 months later. The satire and parody in the work is broadly based around Afro-American stereotypes, culled from the 'Kingfish' of the TV show "Amos 'n' Andy". The US vinyl set contains a 4-page mail-order insert, whilst the Euro has a single-sheet insert - both promoting the 'Old Masters One' box-set release.
Subsequent CD issues, other than the EMI, contain various remixes, edits and alternate versions in comparison to the original vinyl - including the 2012 reissue. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
