In The Last Waking Moments... came to together over a 2 year period with 3 main recording sessions taking place in Sugar Loaf NY (in Brad Morrison's recording studio where Eric now makes his home and which produced such world reknown artists as Phish); in Quebec where Eric and Pete spent two weeks surrounding the 2011 Marillion Convention in Montreal in a Chalet in Mont St. Sauveur and the La Olympia Theatre; and in Ocean City Maryland, where Pete and Eric rented 2 luxury beach houses in Ocean Pines to complete the record. The rest of the recording and mixing took place in Aylesbury's Racket Club which is the home recording studio for Marillion who guest starred on the album. Mixdown was performed by Mike Hunter except for 4 tracks which were mixed by Ex-Fish guitarist and long time Pete Trewavas friend, Robin Boult. Mike Hunter mastered the final tracks at the Racket Club.

In the middle of the night, Eric went on stage and feeling inspired by the Marillion's performance the night before, he took Steve Hogarth's guitar pick that "h" had used for that previous night's show off his mic stand... and recorded the final epic ending to The Awakening.
