Ed Zealous are four skinny hipped hombres from Northern Ireland whose signature sound is a mid-tempo mash-up of cassios, heavy beats and sizzling synths. Taking influence from the likes of seminal legends David Bowie, Talking Heads and Pulp as well as A-Trak, Boys Noise and TV On The Radio, the band create their own vision of indie infused electro.
The band release first single ‘Medicines’ from their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, an intense labour of love which was recorded with producer Eliot James. James’ extensive body of work includes collaborations with Bloc Party, Noah and The Whale and Does It Offend You, Yeah?.
Lead single ‘Medicines’ is a thumping dance hit which focuses on the theme of paranoia and the thought processes that are entwined with fear and moving on. The darker, melancholic lyrics are effortlessly juxtaposed with an infectious upbeat synth backing track and the kind of catchy, uplifting chorus which will have everyone off their chairs dancing and left singing the track for days to come.
It seems that Belfast has proven to be the perfect breeding ground for the weird and wonderful of late, and Ed Zealous are very much at the forefront of the talent pool. If local shows are anything to go by expect a future littered with dance floor fillers and hyped up audiences. Championed by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol as “a slice of awesome electro that would fizz in your mouth if you took a bite.”
The band spent the majority of 2012 making the final touches to their debut album but returned to the live show circuit with a sold out show and started 2013 on a high by opening for friends Two Door Cinema Club at their homecoming show in Belfast. Now, with an album on the horizon, 2013 seems set to be their year.
Ed Zealous are the latest escapees from Label Fandango’s talent stable. Fandango began life as a boutique label offshoot of parent company Fierce Panda with the simple ethos ‘all thrills: no frills’. Over the past six years Fandango has released pivotal landmark singles by the likes of The Heartbreaks, Broken Records, the mighty Dingus Khan and, most recently, Nadine Shah.
Set to soundtrack the summer’s dance floors, Ed Zealous’ solid debut effort ‘Medicines’ is out on 8th April. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
