The Crackers were founded in 1979 and first appeared as "The Crackers" (previously called "People" since 1970) on December 8, 1979 at the Wartburg in Wiesbaden. They were a pioneering German rock band in the Neue Deutsche Welle genre. Next to the Rodgau Monotones, Flatsch! and Hob Goblin they also were protagonists of the so-called "Hessen-Power" in the mid '80s. They had national success with the songs Phonhaus and Pornokino (both 1982). Their greatest success was Klassenfahrt zum Titisee (1983) where they coined the term "Turnschuh-Generation" (i.e. "sneaker generation") which quickly entered German common language.
In 1987 the band split and reformed again in 1989 with different members. Since 1998 they played with the original lineup. In 2003 they appeared at the 25th anniversary concert Silberhochzeit Live of the Rodgau Monotones at the Stadthalle Offenbach up and played in front of 8,000 people.
On their 30th anniversary the band recorded the double live album Die Crackers Live, published in May 2009. The setlist of the evening generated from a public voting. In July 2009, the band released the single Wir haben einen Traum, the official fan song of the German football club SV Wehen Wiesbaden. On September 29, 2012, the band played their last concert in Wiesbaden. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
