Διάφανα Κρίνα (Diafana Krina) was a Greek rock band founded in Athens, Greece. Members included Thanos Anestopoulos (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano), Pantelis Rothostoglou (bass), Nikos Bardis (electric guitar, trumpet), Kyriakos Tsoukalas (electric guitar) and Tassos Machas (drums). Their main characteristic (apart from their distinct baritone voice of Anestopoulos) was the use of music poems (mostly written by bassist Rodostoglou) rather than usual lyrics. The group's musical style and themes haven't changed during the years. Influences of many bands can be detected in their sound, but nonetheless they have created something very special and quite different for the Greek scene.
The band was formed in 1991. In 1994 they released their first single titled "Lionantas monos / Kato apo to Ifestio" on Wipe Out! Records. They released the first full-length in 1996 titled "Egine i apolia synithia mas". In 1997 they participated in the 'Rock of Gods' festival in Athens together with Sisters of Mercy and New Model Army. In 1998 they release their second LP 'Kati saravales kardies' and did several concerts around Greece including acting as support for the Tindersticks Athens concert. In 2000 they released a single 'Ine pou ola irthan arga' and album 'Evodiazoun agriokerasa i siopes'. In 2001 they appear for three concerts in the UK (London at Dingwalls, Manchester at The Roadhouse and Brighton at Concorde 2).
In 2003 the LP "Oti apomine ap tin eftihia" was released released. In 2005 the CD "O giros tis meras se 80 kosmous" was released together with a book that included poems and text. It should be mentioned that every song of the CD is instrumental, creating a would-be "soundtrack" for the reading of the book. Their latest album, "Ki i agapi pali tha kalei", was released in late 2008.
On 1 June 2009 the band announced its disbanding. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
