The duo are keyboard-player, guitarist and singer Arie Kuipers, and drummer and singer, Arjen Kamminga. Both musicians have distinguished careers behind them which started in the early 1960s and formed the band as a tongue-in-cheek exercise to amuse themselves and their friends.
From these humble origins, the band become an 'underground' national institution, berated by a few, yet celebrated by those with an ear for lyrics that narrate the unspoken humour, irony, wit and political incorrectness that keep them popular, with songs many set to catchy melodic folk-tunes.

In het Nederlands: De Dikke Lul Band is een Nederlandstalige band. De band bestaat uit toetsenist, gitarist en zanger Arie Kuipers en drummer/zanger Arjen Kamminga.
De Dikke Lul Band stond in 1994 drie weken op de derde plaats in de Top 40 met het nummer Dikke Lul. Kort daarop volgde hun tweede single Op Je Ballen Naar De Wallen en het gelijknamige album. De Dikke Lul Band zingt vooral over seksuele onderwerpen, onder andere over masturbatie, orale seks en prostitutie.
De Dikke Lul Band heeft veel nummers gecoverd met hun eigen teksten, waaronder Guus Meeuwis. De liederen van de Dikke Lul Band werden vooral gedraaid bij studentenfeesten, opas, en in cafés en overige uitgaansgelegenheden. Hun populariteit onder studenten heeft geleid tot een live-CD opgenomen in een Haarlemse studentensociëteit samen met herendispuut Scharlaecken Wit.
