Da Weasel were a portuguese hip-hop/rock band from Almada, Portugal. They were formed in 1993 by Pac Man and Yen Sung (vocals), Jay Jay (Bass) and Armando (Samples).
Their first EP was "More than 30 motherfuckers", totally in english, produced in 1994. After just one year, they recorded their first album "Dou-lhe com a Alma", also the pioneer Hip-Hop record in Portugal. At the this time, Pedro Quaresma (Guitar) and Guilherme Silva (Drums), joined the group.
Two years later, 1997, Da Weasel put out in stores their second full title "3º Capítulo". Many fans say that this was the album that changed minds in Portugal and confirmed that Pac Man is one of the greatest lyricists. Before this album came out, Virgul (vocals) joined the band and Yen left.
In 1998, they remixed "3º Capítulo".
The last year of the millennium was awesome for them. With the new vibes of Virgul, they made a fantastic album: "Iniciação a uma Vida Banal - O Manual". Critics loved and the song "Outro Nível" was a anthem, just like today it is.
To finish this year, they performed at Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon, opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In August 2000, they received two awards. The silver for "3º Capítulo" and "O Manual".
In the beginning of 2001, Da Weasel performed on the most important festivals in their country and started to produce the new record, without Armando, who left the band.
December was the month for that album. "Podes fugir mas não te podes esconder" was another great hit in the charts. The song "Tás na Boa" was the most important single and the video of this one, had the best production ever with a portuguese band. Cuban group, Orishas, appears on the record in "Sigue, Sigue!"
After 4 years, they made another album, produced in London. "Re-Definições" is probably, one of the most successful national albums ever. "Just" quadruple platinum! (80 thousand sells). "Re-Tratamento", "Casa" and "Força" are 3 songs that everyone knows the lyrics and the beats.
Also in 2005, they've won the Best Portuguese Act on MTV European Music Awards, 2 golden globs (Best song and best group). They have made a large tour too, with shows at the two coliseums, Olympia in Paris and Rock In Rio Lisbon (June 3, 2006), which they played again before the mainly attraction, Red Hot Chili Peppers. In this show, Flea was on stage, clapping Da Weasel's performance.
In 2007, @ Optimus Alive, they performed right after Matisyahu, and he accepted to making a duet with Pac-Man, make an improvisation song.
In 2010, they disbanded with no apparent reason. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
