C.A.F.B. is a Hungarian rock band from Budapest, formed in 1990 by Gabor Hun Szakacsi (today-Sledgeback) and Mike Szita. The group went thru several member changes throughout it’s long career but officially never broke up and released dozens of albums with many music videos. Their 1993 album (“Ne bizz senkiben”) was one of the most respected Hungarian hardcore punk albums, featured C.A.F.B. songs written between 1990 and 1993, by the first and earliest line up of the band.
Following the departure of the drummer, the band went on a short hiatus until 1995, when Szakacsi regrouped C.A.F.B. and took a different direction in songwriting. The result was a more media friendly punk rock material with a totally different lineup, which was led by the only remaining original member, Gabor Hun Szakacsi (also known as: Greg, Gabi Hun or Kispunk). Their 1997 album “Zanza” landed the band into the mainstream media of Hungary and Central Europe with the video “Engedj be” which was one of the most important piece of the mid-nineties Hungarian alternative music scene. The video was featured by all major music and entertainment channels of the region (VIVA, Duna TV, ATV and more - including MTV Europe) and charted in the area's alternative music lists.
The success was short lived, because of Szakacsi's drug problems stood in the way and following the recording sessions of the 1999 album "Minden-hato" ("All-mighty") the last remaining original member, founder, frontman moved to the United States. (He later formed the Seattle based punk group Sledgeback.) The album has been released by the Hungarian Metal Hammer magazine owned label "Hammer music" in 1999.
Since the departure of Szakacsi the band worked with always changing lineups but kept releasing albums. Szakacsi worked with C.A.F.B. on their 2001 and 2004 albums. These were recorded when Szakacsi was able to travel back to Hungary for recording sessions.
--C.A.F.B. is one of the most authentic Hungarian alternative bands. They were part of the defining era of the new alternative and punk rock music of their homeland. Their songs have been covered by countless younger and upcoming bands thru the decades.--
