The Boston Horns is led by Garret Savluk and Henley Douglas Jr., formerly of the Heavy Metal Horns. Over the course of 20 years, Henley and Garret have collaborated and toured with a wide range of artists including Tower of Power, Maceo Parker, Extreme, Johnny A., Shawn Mullins, Laverne Baker, Susan Tedeschi, James Montgomery, Los Lobos and the Del Fuegos, to name a few. They also frequently collaborate with soul singing sensation Barrence Whitfield on vocals.
The Boston Horns' compelling mix of funk, jazz and soul has kept them busy performing in clubs, festivals and private events around New England, New Orleans and beyond.
These veterans of the Boston music scene are being played on radio stations across the U.S., toured in Japan, and play a steady stream of gigs in the North East. Their instrumentals take you back to the legendary Dizzie Gillespie and Charlie Parker, producing a jazz version of jam bands. This is where Superfly, Shaft, the Meters, Funkadelic and Parliament collide.
Shibuya Gumbo, the new album by the Boston Horns, features tracks with Barrence Whitfield on vocals, and funky alto sax player Sam Kininger of Soulive and Lettuce fame. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
