“The Curse Of Blondie” is the eighth studio album by American new wave band, Blondie. “The Curse Of Blondie” was released on October 13, 2003, despite the fact that it’s release was delayed due to lost master tapes from luggage, and the events that occurred on September 11. The album charted at No. 36 in the UK, and No. 83 in the AU, making it Blondie’s lowest charting album to date. Deborah Harry and the band even started recording for the album almost immediately after the release of their previous album, “No Exit”. Though this album was rejected by most all critics, the album did spawn the dance hit, “Good Boys”, (UK: #12; AU: #37), which was the band’s first single since 2000’s “No Exit”. “Good Boys” had an accompanied music video, that was filmed in mostly black and white, but during the bridge, it reveals the only other color images of Debbie singing. Due to “Good Boys” hitting the Top 20 in the UK and the Top 10 on the and US dance charts, there was another single planned, “Undone”, however, Sanctuary Records refused on giving it a release as a single. Among the other tracks, “Shakedown”, a rap that didn’t have the audience agree with it, referring to Debbie’s vulgar language in the song, though, the band stated that, “It was supposed to be funny”. The rest of the album is practically dominated by elements of rock. (“Undone”; “Golden Rod”; “Rules For Living”; “End To End”; “Last One In The World”; “Diamond Bridge”) Other elements include reggae, (“Background Melody (The Only One)”; “Hello Joe”) Japanese folk, (“Magic (Asadoya Yunta)”) some jazz, (“Desire Brings Me Back”; “Songs Of Love (For Richard)”) and finally dance pop, (“Good Boys”; “The Tingler”). According to Deborah Harry during one of her concert performances, the track, “Magic (Asadoya Yunta)”, was inspired when a friend explained to Harry, that if you only focus on the positive, we could change the world. She also stated about the track, “Hello Joe”, saying that it was written about a very dear friend to the band, Joey Ramone. The title of the album itself came about when the band wanted the title to be treated as a joke. The album didn’t do too well in the charts, only reaching #130 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, it had some success in the United Kingdom with reaching #36 there. This album, was one of the first albums to be re-released on DualDisc technology, which is basically an all-in-one disc with a CD on one side, and a DVD on the other side of the disc. In this case, the CD side included the entire album, while the DVD side included, the whole album again, but in 5.1 stereo sound, a photo gallery, the music video for “Good Boys”, and more content for computers. There was only one bonus track on this album, which is the Georgio Moroder remix for “Good Boys”. The album is another one of Blondie's examples of experimenting with music genres.
