The band was founded in early 1999 and after several demo records they released their first album in 2004 named "Nah bei mir". The band name is attributed to a broken television where the name of the Bud Spencer movie "Banana Joe" was barely readable.
A first taste of their second album "Hallo, wer kennt hier eigentlich wen?", an EP called "Spätsommersonne" featuring three new songs and two live recordings, came out in September 2006. The album itself was released in February 2007. The single "Wenn Du nur wüsstest" (a duet with Klee singer Suzie Kerstgens), which came out in January, gave Anajo their first ever chart-placing, reaching a respectable #58 in the German singles charts.
